HELP FOR HAITIPastor Rick is in contact with a ministry in Haiti that has a medical clinic close to the heart of the earthquake damage. They are requesting medical supplies immediately. Please look at the list below and bring some to the Foyer this weekend. Look for boxes designated for Haiti.
Medications: (they will take any medication, but these are the greatest needs) Medical Supplies Needed: JANUARY 2010A new year, a new decade has begun. I know of no better way to begin than with participating in our Prayer and Fasting emphasis these next 3 weeks. Join us this week at 6:30pm for an hour of worship & prayer - churchwide. Then, the next two weeks, come by the church from noon - 12:30 as we continue a time of prayer as we seek His direction for the new year.
Also, would love to hear your comments on how this Blog & Facebook page could help you in your walk with God and connecting to NLC. Look forward to hearing from you. ADVENT: THE SEASON OF PREPARATIONPerhaps, one of the true joys of the Christmas season is the preparation and anticipation of celebrating Christmas Day. It is a remarkable and amazing day - reminding us of the Incarnation, where Jesus actually came to live on this earth in the flesh, as a human being. And, of course, His earthly mission was fulfilled with His death on cross, paving the way for humanity to have eternal life with His Father.
The paradox of this season is how hectic and busy it can become. All the shopping, family activities, parties, more shopping, and school programs can keep us in over drive. This can keep us from "preparing" in our hearts for the celebration and coming of the Christ child. By preparing in our hearts, I mean the intentional time to take to slow down and reflect on the meaning and blessing of the season. This can be done very simply by scheduling personal / family devotionals, listening to Christmas music, or reading inspirational Christmas stories.
During the "busy" days that lie ahead, let's take the time to personally prepare our hearts for the celebration of the season. Let me know some ways that you slow the pace to enjoy and appreciate this "season of preparation." SEASON OF TRANSITIONSOne of the most challenging yet rewarding transitions of being in mid life are the changes related to both your grown children and your grandchildren. Regularly, I am reminded of Psalm 127 which states what a gift children are. I also now include grandchildren when I read that encouraging Psalm. Presently, we are seeing a lot of changes around our household. Just contrast the attached pictures. There is one with Abby (our first grandchild) on her first day of school contrasted with a recent flyer featuring our grown daughter, Emily. it seems just like yesterday that Emily (along with her sisters) were posing for their "first day" picture.
Let me know some of the transitions that you are facing as your children are becoming adults.
